Our curriculum is designed to foster critical understanding and historical knowledge of media forms, as well as their relationship to modern cultures, literatures, art, history, and philosophy. We strongly believe that an understanding of film and media is best achieved when students are afforded the opportunity to apply their analytical and theoretical knowledge to the production and creation of media texts, a process we believe is crucial to enhancing their understanding of film, television, and other media.

We envision a program that offers superior preparation for our students in film and media. We want them to be able to realize their scholarly and professional goals, offering an education that allows them to compete for graduate training and jobs with graduates of peer institutions. Primary to our educational objective is training for our young filmmakers that will allow them to create work that is art, and, for those who are scholars, an understanding of the creative process. Our aim is to turn out students whose background in the arts and humanities is exceptionally comprehensive, and whose creativity is informed by finely honed critical/analytical skills and a deep knowledge of history and culture.
